BOTOX®

What Is It?

BOTOX® cosmetic is a purified protein manufactured to relax exaggerated muscle movements.

How It Works

Over time, these exaggerated muscle movements contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles in the skin. Typically after several days, the effects of BOTOX® are noticeable, and lines are softened. It may take up to 2 weeks for maximal benefit. When used in combination with a medically based skin care program, the skin's quality can be improved.

Where Can It Be Used?

BOTOX® can be used between the eyebrows, across the forehead, and around the eyes to smooth frown and worry lines, and crow's feet. It can also be safely used to smooth a dimpled chin, lines around the mouth, vertical neck bands, the jawline, or provide a subtle nose lift. BOTOX® may also be useful in treating excessive sweating, migraine headaches, and Temporomandibular Joint and Muscle Disorders (TMJ).

About the Treatment

BOTOX® treatments vary from person to person, depending on one's individual goals and needs. Dosing of BOTOX® cosmetic is in units. An experienced injector customizes each treatment by determining the optimal number of units necessary for the most effective treatment. After cleansing and disinfecting the skin, a series of injections just under the skin is performed using an ultra fine needle. Most patients note very little or no discomfort with the technique.

How Long Does it Take?

Although this medical treatment takes only a few mintues, the consultation and preparation may take between 15 and 30 minutes. There is very little "down time," and most people show no evidence of having been treated by the time they leave the office.
